
The 1st International Manuscript Symposium, organized by the Presidency of the Turkish Manuscripts Institution (Türkiye Yazma Eserler Kurumu Başkanlığı, TÜYEK) with the contributions of our Institute, was held in Istanbul on 10–12 December 2025. The opening program took place on 10 December at the Atatürk Cultural Center (AKM) Theatre Hall, and the paper sessions were hosted at the Rami Library on 11–12 December.

At the opening session, Prof. Dr. İhsan Fazlıoğlu, Director of the Institute for the History of Science, Istanbul Medeniyet University, delivered the keynote address titled “Registration, Preservation, and Circulation: The ‘Manuscript’ as the Ontological Ground of Knowledge’s Theoretical Horizon.” Chaired by Prof. Dr. Derya Örs, the session also featured presentations by Prof. Dr. Günay Kut, Prof. Dr. Erhan Afyoncu, and Prof. Dr. François Déroche, addressing the historical trajectory of manuscript culture, methodological challenges, and future perspectives.

Bringing together nearly 200 experts and researchers from 29 countries, the symposium discussed, within an interdisciplinary framework, key processes related to manuscripts, including production, registration, preservation, circulation, cataloguing, digitization, and restoration. The program also included a roundtable session titled “The Future of Manuscripts in the Digital Age.”
