Dr. Sena Aydın, a faculty member in the Department of the History of Science, presented on the use of the second law of reflection in Ottoman optical texts at a meeting for the European Society for the History of Science at The University of Manchester.

She detailed how the principles of reflection established by Ibn Sīnā (Avicenna) were utilized in the works of scholars like Hocazâde, Karaveys el-Kocevî, and Qutb al-Dīn Muhammad, and were later developed into an experimental setup by the astronomer Taqī al-Dīn al-Rāṣid.
