Dr. Sena Aydın, faculty member in the Department of History of Natural Sciences at our institute, delivered a presentation titled "The Most Comprehensive Treatise on the Rainbow of the Ottoman Classical Period: An Evaluation of its Sources" at the IV. International Congress of Ottoman Studies held at Ca' Foscari University, Venice, on October 17–19, 2025.
In her presentation, Dr. Aydın introduced Qutbuddin Muhammad's treatise on the rainbow (qaws-i quzaḥ), a work concerning optics, focusing on its contents and sources. By comparing this work with other treatises on the rainbow written during the Ottoman classical period, she discussed the treatise's prominent features within the literature of Ottoman optical history. Furthermore, she highlighted potential areas for future research related to the treatise.
