The "First Encyclopedia of Sciences in Anatolia: Abdullah Kütâhî and Ferâ'idu'l-Funûn Symposium," held on April 10, 2025, hosted by Kütahya Dumlupınar University with the contributions of our Institute, has yielded its academic results. The papers presented at the symposium have been made available to the scientific community as expanded research articles in the 87th issue (Special Issue) of the Dumlupınar University Journal of Social Sciences (DPÜSBE).
The symposium, graced by the presence of Council of Higher Education (YÖK) President Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar and featuring the keynote address by our Institute Director Prof. Dr. İhsan Fazlıoğlu, examined Abdullah Kütâhî—a unique figure of 18th-century Ottoman science—and his encyclopedic work Ferâ'idu'l-Funûn through an interdisciplinary approach.
Featuring papers presented by faculty members of our Institute and the IMU Department of the History of Science in fields such as mathematics, optics, mechanics, geography, zoology, and philosophy, this special issue marks a significant step toward introducing this work—characterized as the "first encyclopedia of sciences in Anatolia"—to the academic literature.
