Human is knowledge. Therefore, knowledge is the common memory of humanity. ‘Scientific knowledge’, which is a type of knowledge, is the methodical/rational knowledge of phenomena and events in different spheres of reality and is the common heritage of humanity as a whole. The formation and development process of this knowledge system, which is organised especially for the purpose of comprehending the material-physical universe, in different civilisations and cultural basins constitutes the main subject of History of Science studies. The historian of science deals with these processes in their historical contexts, not as independent facts that have taken place in history. Therefore, he takes into consideration the relationship of science with the political, religious, philosophical, social, cultural and economic values and parameters in which it flourishes and the individual, social and organisational connections of scientific knowledge. The Institute has started its education, training and research life with this awareness of the essence of the history of science studies and aims to continue its studies within the framework of the history of science research methods of the 21st century. In this context, while project-oriented research activities are carried out within the Institute, master's and doctoral education is provided in parallel with these activities. The primary objectives of the Institute are to present the history of sciences to the world of academia and society in general, starting with graduate students, by considering their position in history, to remind that the imagination of the future is an activity that is overcome by including the past, and to contribute to the discovery, recognition and protection of the heritage of science and technology in Turkey.
