This year marks the 550th anniversary of the passing of Ali Kuşçu, who died on 7 Sha'ban 879 / December 17, 1474. On this occasion, a conference series has been organized in collaboration with our Institute and the Fatih Municipality Zeyrek Academy to evaluate Kuşçu, one of the significant figures in the history of science, through his works and fields of study that reflect his vast knowledge. The sixth conference in the series will feature faculty members Assistant Professor Dr. Taha Yasin Arslan from our Institute's teaching staff and Assistant Professor Dr. Hasan Umut from Boğaziçi University's Department of History. The conference, titled "Astronomy (İlm-i Hey’et), Astronomical Tables (Zîc), Timekeeping (Mîkât), and Methods (Usûl): Ali Kuşçu as an Astronomer," aims to introduce Kuşçu's works on the disciplines of practical and theoretical astronomy and present their views.

The conference will begin at 15:30 on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at the Fatih Culture and Arts Center.
